Federally chartered VSO's are recognized or

approved by the US Department of Veterans
Affairs (VA) Secretary for purposes of
preparation, presentation, and prosecution of

claims under laws administered by the VA.

The individuals who provide this service are
Service Officers. There are two types of
Service Officers: the local post or chapter
Service Officers who are part-time
volunteers, and the full-time, professional
Service Officers who are employees of the VSO.
