Sumner’s experience includes: Peace Corps Volunteer in Thailand (Group 1), planning staff for city and regional agencies, executive director of a non-profit agency (Economic Opportunity Committee of Clark County WA), Professor of Urban Studies and Planning and Planner-in-Residence at Portland (OR) State University, and planning consultant in four Portland OR based firms. He currently is a Senior Consultant at Parametrix and Adjunct Professor of Urban Studies and Planning and serves on the Board of Directors of the Friends of Thailand, Inc. He has an AB from Dartmouth College, MCRP from Cornell University, and a PhD from the University of Washington. He is the recipient of state and national awards from the American Planning Association and served as national president of the American Institute of Certified planners.
